Is it illegal to splash a pedestrian

Unlike in the UK, it is not illegal to splash a pedestrian with clean water from a puddle by driving through it. However, it is illegal in New South Wales to splash mud on bus passengers. You could receive a $177 fine and 3 demerit points.

The problem with splashing pedestrians (which some people think is funny, but actually is just inconsiderate) is that it puts the driver in danger. Running one side of your car’s wheels through deep water can cause you to lose control because of the extra drag on that side of the car, or through aquaplaning.

If you see deep water it’s best to slow down to minimise the height and amount of water that’s splashed.
